How to install the Surfshark Antivirus on macOS

In this article, you will learn how to install the Surfshark Antivirus on your macOS device.

Before getting started, you will need an active Surfshark One or Surfshark One+ subscription to use the Antivirus feature. If you don’t have a subscription yet, you can get one by visiting the Surfshark pricing page.

NOTE: Surfshark Antivirus is available only in the .DMG version downloaded from our official website and is not supported in the App Store version of the Surfshark app.

Install the Surfshark app

1. Go to the Surfshark download page for macOS and download the .DMG version of the Surfshark app:
   
   
    
2. Complete the standard installation process, then open the app and sign in to your account.
   
   NOTE: If you have Surfshark downloaded from the App Store, uninstall that version first.

Set up Antivirus on macOS

1. Open the Surfshark app and go to the Antivirus tab:
   
   
    
2. Click Quick scan:
   
   
    
3. Click Open Login Items & Extensions and follow the on-screen instructions:
   
   
    
4. Use your Touch ID or enter your Mac’s password to approve the changes:
   
   
    
5. Return to the Surfshark app and click Open Full Disk Access:
   
   
    
6. Follow the on-screen instructions and again use your Touch ID or enter your password to allow the changes:
   
   
    
7. Once the permissions are granted, the quick scan will start automatically in the Surfshark app:
   
   
    
8. After the scan is complete, you’ll see the main Antivirus dashboard. Click Turn on protection to enable continuous protection:
